The Association of British Healthcare Industries is a trade association for the medical technology sector in the UK formed in the 1980s. It has about 250 member companies which together provide 80% of the medical technology used in the NHS. It has offices in London. Members include the UK operations of multinational companies.
The Association maintains a large number of special interest groups. It maintains a Code of Business Practice which regulates company interactions with healthcare professionals and other customers.
It represents the suppliers in dealings with the National Health Service and in relation to regulatory bodies. It now works closely with NHS England.
It arranges international events to promote its members interests.
In August 2017 it complains that NHS England's Commissioning Through Evaluation project was dysfuntional, damaged the reputation of the UK and prevent patients from benefiting from innovative treatment.
